About the event

Dear friends,

We are beginning a momentous year in Australia. I write on behalf of three important community organisations sharing a significant event on January 26th, here on Bribie Island. This year our community will have the opportunity to make a difference for future generations, and join hands to heal our country when we vote on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Pumicestone Indigenous Education and Employment Council (PIEEC), Bribie Island Community Kindergarten, and Bribie Island Environmental Protection Association (BIEPA) invite you to join us to acknowledge the country we are fortunate enough to live on, and to celebrate the legacy of the Joondoburri people who have lived on Bribie Island for more than 2000 years.

Bribie Kindy Director, Narelle Dawson has worked for many years to reinforce the central importance of and respect for indigenous Australian culture in the kindergarten family and wider community, developing understanding in our youngest citizens of the value of the story of this country, its people, fauna and flora. Central in this work has been BIEPA member Uncle Ron Powell, whose valuable work with the children has created a unique sense of connection.

Makarrata (from the Yolngu language of Arnhem Land) is a crucial objective for our society, in which all Australians can come together to achieve agreements and to tell the truth about our history.

We can all join in healing our society. We play a vital role through this sharing of community involvement.

Please feel free to invite friends, and bring a folding chair.

Kind wishes for a powerful 2023,

Richard Ogden

President, BIEPA
