About the event
Enjoy making a positive difference in helping to collect marine debris rubbish that has washed ashore along the Pumicestone Passage. BIEPA volunteers will be using a BBQ boat from Bribie Island Boat Charters for the morning. Spaces limited!
The actual cleanup area along Pumicestone Passage will be dependent on tides and prevailing weather conditions.
The main pickup / dropoff of volunteers and collected marine debris will be at the Public Boat Ramp off Kal Ma Kuta Drive, Sandstone Point. Boarding time for volunteers will be around 7:45AM. We aim to be dropping off the collected rubbish by 11:30 AM so that we can sort the material and complete a data analysis before the finish time of 12:30PM.
The crew will comprise a licensed boat operator and up to 9 volunteers. Volunteers are requested to wear sturdy footwear (that can handle getting wet), a hat, gloves and sunsafe clothing. Also bring a water bottle, sunscreen and snacks.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and physically capable of getting on/off the boat when it is pulled up on the shoreline.
BIEPA equipment provided includes a selection of gloves and reef shoes, hi-viz vests, buckets, bags, litter pickers and a small number of UHF radios and sharps containers.
The BBQ boat will have appropriate life jackets on board and is also equipped with a toilet.
If you are keen to participate, please register your interest ASAP, so that we can finalise the crew. Spaces limited. Thank you!
