BIEPA Central, 96 Webster St, Bongaree QLD 4507, Australia
About the event
Each year, marine turtles return to the dunes of Bribie Island National Park to nest — part of an extraordinary life cycle that spans decades and entire ocean basins.
This two-hour session will bring that story to life, drawing on the latest insights from the BIEPA-supported TurtleCare Sunshine Coast monitoring program. It’s designed for anyone with an interest in our local beaches, wildlife, and conservation.
We’ll cover:
The life cycle and migration of Bribie’s turtles
What actually happens on the beach during nesting season
How TurtleCare volunteers monitor and protect nests
The real threats turtles face — from light pollution to vehicle impacts and marine debris
Simple, practical ways you can help improve hatchling success
This session is an opportunity to better understand what’s happening on our beaches — and how you can play a role in protecting the next generation of turtles.
