When and where
05 June 2025, 7:30 am – 12:00 pm
Banksia Beach, 2 Sunderland Dr, Banksia Beach QLD 4507, Australia
About the event
Enjoy World Environment Day making a positive difference in helping to collect rubbish that has washed ashore along the Pumicestone Passage, on the western side of Bribie Island.
The actual cleanup areas along Pumicestone Passage will be dependent on tides and prevailing weather conditions. The start (7:30AM) and finish (11:30AM) location, for the majority of volunteers, will be at the Banksia Beach Boat Ramp, located on Solander Esplanade, just south of Sunderland Drive, Banksia Beach.
BIEPA will hire a 12 seater BBQ boat (with toilet) along with two smaller boats. We will require a licensed boat operator and at least one competent boat crew member for each of the three boats. They will bring the three hired boats over from the Spinnaker Sound Marina, Sandstone Point, and return them at the end of the event.
In addition to the three skippers and three support crew there will be twelve (12) available places for volunteers across the three boats, which will be filled on a first in basis. The remaining volunteers don't need to be experienced boaties, you'll just need to be comfortable getting on and off a boat and getting your feet wet!
Other volunteers are very welcome to participate by cleaning up along the Banksia Beach shoreline.
All volunteers are required to wear sturdy footwear (reef shoes are good if on one of the boats), a hat, gloves and sunsafe clothing. Also bring a water bottle, sunscreen and snacks. Equipment that will be provided includes gloves, collection bags, buckets and litter pickers. The boats will have life jackets on board.
Following a data analysis of the collected marine debris, volunteers are invited to stay for a simple luncheon, provided by BIEPA, to celebrate World Environment Day, along with some invited dignitaries.
If you are keen to participate in this event, please register your interest ASAP so that we can finalise crews. Thank you!
