Acid sulphate pollution

Highlighted acid sulphate pollution from construction activity on Bongaree waterfront, resulting in fines for the developer.

Tree & Vegetation Protection

Started lobbying MBRC for a Tree & Vegetation Protection and Management Policy specific to Bribie Island.

Woorim Erosion Reference Group

Invited to be a community representative on the Woorim Erosion Reference Group (WERG) resulting from BIEPA’s participation in the Woorim Beach Shoreline Erosion Management Plan (WBSEMP) endorsed by Council in 2007.

Recording dunes destruction

Monitored and recorded lowering of Woorim Dunes and removal of trees and vegetation for sea views and warned authorities of negative impacts.

Desalination plant

Lobbied for the abandonment of a proposal to build a desalination plant on Bribie Island.

FFF Dune Protection innovation

A BIEPA member developed the innovative design of the Foreshore Flexisafe Fencing (FFF) system under the Woorim Beach Dune Stabilisation Project, managed by Friends of Woorim. It has resulted in valuable sand accretion since then. Members also propagated and planted endemic dune plants. BIEPA presented on this system at National and State Conferences.

Butterfly habitat at school

Together with Birdwing Butterfly expert, Ray Seddon, and Banksia Beach State School students, BIEPA planted butterfly attracting vines in school grounds.

Reopened our stall at the monthly Rotary Market in Bongaree.

Picnic rubbish warnings

Jointly with MBRC, BIEPA fitted plaques to public picnic tables to stress impact of discarding rubbish.
