An exciting start to BIEPA’s biggest ever volunteer weeding project is unfolding at Buckleys Hole Conservation Park.
Six teams are participating during weekday mornings, identifying and removing weeds by hand in order to improve the area’s conservation value.
City of Moreton Bay Council recognises the importance of restoring this area, and has provided $46,000 of funding to enlist BIEPA to engage specialist conservation contractors. Barung Landcare will join us early in 2026 to conduct heavy work to remove bigger weeds including invasive Pepper Trees, which have infested Buckleys Hole, and compromised the environmental values of this special location.
All volunteers are welcome to join this project, with nearly fifty of us already enrolled to help. It is nothing short of incredible that we can muster this much energy and commitment from people on Bribie Island, and is a fantastic story to share throughout the region and inspire greater environmental commitment to best practice.
This is a real watershed project for BIEPA. The future looks excellent as our whole Island community turns its attention to looking after our vital environmental assets. Training is provided. If you would like to volunteer please contact the Flora Team leader Angela Armitage. Proper induction and training is a must as the work is physical and the terrain is a challenge. Teams work three hours at a time. You can choose your day of the week to suit your schedule.
