Community volunteers joined BIEPA for its Clean-up Australia Day project, removing 200kg of rubbish

A fantastic effort by 25 community members, many of them volunteering with BIEPA for the first time, achieved the removal of more than 200kg of debris from bushland behind the Bribie Island Shopping Centre.

Environment Team Co-Leader Brendan Walsh did an excellent job identifying the site and determining our prime objectives, inducting and briefing everyone, and coordinating with Uncle Phil Krause Elder of the Joondoburri People, custodians of the land adjoining our targeted site.

We were joined by MP for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan and State Minister for Environment the Honourable Andrew Powell, who congratulated BIEPA on its vision and leadership in protecting the environment. He recognised that developing whole of community commitment to caring for nature is fundamental for the future.

Once again we acknowledge that this type of frontline activity is crucial in more ways than just its practical impact. It tells the story of who we are and why we care. Well done to the Environment Team for its continuing dedication.
