About the event
Planet Ark's National Tree Day was started in 1996 and has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event. We are marking the day with the final planting and mulching activity for our Jubilee Planting project, funded by a federal government grant and fuelled by our fantastic Flora Team member Glenda Charles with Mark Stanton-Cook, Ron Nothman, and a host of other volunteers over the past months, starting with the initial planting last October.
To commemorate this enduring legacy of Queen Elizabeth II, we will be unveiling a plaque designed by local graphic artist Elissa Eady and made by Unit Plaques & Trophies.Â
Please join us for morning tea to celebrate the completion of this project, and help with this final round of planting and mulching to fill out the space with native species that will boost biodiversity in the park. Please wear sturdy gardening clothes and shoes, and as with any BIEPA activity remember to sign in and out on the day.
The plan is to have eight teams planting different sections of the site, each with a supervisor. Please watch this entertaining and instructive video from BIEPA member Ron Nothman on how to plant natives. Tasks include setting up gazebo, folding in organic soil, unloading and positioning plants, organising morning tea. Bring a pointy-nosed shovel and wheelbarrow if you can.
