Best of BIEPA at the Nature Festival

Success all around this past weekend on Bribie Island at the many Bribie Island Nature Festival events BIEPA was involved in!

Wings Over the World

Saturday saw the Wings Over the World event welcome the amazing shorebirds and migratory birds to our intertidal feeding banks.

Wow! So many people came to learn about these annual visitors, to watch them and wonder at their thousands-of-kilometres journey. We saw an amazing range of birds with numerous leg flags noted contributing to international data collection.

Tracks in the Sand

There was also ‘Tracks in the Sand’ that was a wonderful boutique experience all about the Turtle monitoring team and their role in helping nesting turtles on Bribie. Another full house of interested people.

WILD Bribie

Sunday morning saw the inaugural WILD Bribie event by the Seaside Museum at Bongaree, with hundreds of people of all ages coming through to learn about Bribie’s wildlife, check out the many BIEPA projects on display, and get involved in a range of kids activities, including the entertaining book launch of Marina’s Marine Adventure by Larrikin Puppets and the fabulous Water Mouse Maze with Nature Nose.

The amazing BIEPA members helping with all events should be very proud of their combined achievement of showcasing what BIEPA is all about: nature, community, and collaboration on making a positive presence for nature that surrounds this beautiful island we call home!

Landcare Awards

As the cherry on the top of all the above Nature Festival activities, two dedicated BIEPA members received very well-deserved awards at the annual Landcare Awards held in Brisbane on 10th October.

Angela Armitage received the prestigious Women in the Environment Award for her inspiring commitment to environmental protection and restoration over many decades, and Peter Alexander received an Australian Government Individual Landcarer Award for his unflagging dedication to the environment.

A special thank you and acknowledgement goes to Peter and Angela for their unending passion and their commitment to protecting the Bribie region's amazing native species. These awards showcase the level of passion that thrives within the BIEPA membership and drives our projects to excellence. Watch out for a special news story on these awards later in the week.
